Children's and Youth Music Ministries
The Children's and Youth Music Program begins each year in October and ends in the beginning of May. We have some fabulous activities throughout the year, including special parties, music for the annual Christmas Pageant, outreach to the community and much more! The participants learn about important music fundamentals, healthy singing and concepts following the Dalcroze eurythmics method of childhood music education. They also have the opportunity to learn how to lead the congregation in worship. The fellowship and fun are simply too good to miss! Children and youth of our congregation are encouraged to bring their friends to our various music programs - all are welcome!
Cherub Choir - (for children age 4* through Kingergarten): The choir meets every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Huguenot Church Library. Children sing for the first half hour, and then have snack and do a craft project. (*Open to children who turn 4 years old by December 31st of the program year. Children turning four in January-May of the program year may join on their birthday).
Angel Choir - (for children 1st through 3rd grade): The Angel Choir meets every Thursday from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Huguenot Church Library. Children sing for the first half hour, and then have snack and do a craft project.
Gabriel Ringers - (for boys 3rd through 12th grade): The Gabriel Ringers meet every Tuesday at 5:15 in the Bell room at Huguenot Church. They play hand-bells and sing until 6pm, when they have dinner together. There are many opportunities throughout the year to play in church for worship services.
Celebration Choir - (for girls 4th through 8th grade): The Celebration Choir meets every Thursday at 4:45 in the Bell room at Huguenot Church. The girls play hand-chimes and sing until 5:30pm, when they have dinner together.
World Drumming Circle - (for children 3rd through 8th grade): Huguenot's newest music ministry, the drumminng circle meets every Tuesday at 4pm in the Chapel. Children will play on the newly acquired World Drum set and will learn percussion techniques as well as the rich tradition of drumming in spiritual music.
Huguenot has a thriving set of music offerings for teens and adults, guided by the exceptional musical leadership of Kathy Jones, Director of Music Ministries. Rehearsal schedules for the adult choirs are designed to accomodate busy schedules, and teens have the opportunity to enhance their musical skills by participating in the Chancel, Handbell and First Sunday Choir with the adults.
Chancel Choir -This is a wonderful opportunity to lead worship, enjoy delightful fellowship and sing some of the most beautiful music that was ever written from centuries ago through today. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 9:30am before worship and after worship at 11:30am from the first Sunday after Labor Day weekend to early June. The choir sings at each Sunday's worship service and additional services for Christmas, Easter and interfaith worship. During Advent and Lent, the Chancel Choir presents special music - usually a master choral work - and some additional rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings. We make rehearsal tapes availab le in order to accommodate busy schedules.
Handbell Choir - The adult Handbell Choir has weekly rehearsals from 12:30 - 1:30pm on Sundays starting each fall and continuing until early June. Newcomers who have some music reading skills are welcome to join at any time. Open houses will be announced at the beginning of each fall season to plan workshops for a beginner's group.
First Sunday Choir - This choir offers an opportunity for those who love to sing to lead our worship in song on the first Sunday of each month - October through June. The choir is intergenerational (middle-schoolers through adults), the atmosphere is informal and the r ehearsal time is limited to one hour before the Sunday morning service - a perfect opportunity to "sing a joyful song."
First Friday drumming circle for teens and adults - this is Huguenot's newest music ministry, enabled by the Presbyterian Women's generous donation of a world drumming set. Participants learn percussion techniques as well as the rich tradition of drumming in spiritual music. No previous musical training required. After drumming together the group goes out to dinner.
Huguenot Cabaret - the main annual fundraiser for the Presbyterian Women, this event, held in the church gymnasium, provides an opportunity for members of the church community and their friends to display their varied musical talents while raising money for a good cause. A wide variety of musical numbers are performed - from Broadway tunes to Classic Rock. This event is one of the most popular events in town, and serves as a wonderful opportunity for both fellowship and musical expression.
Teen Talent Show - An annual fundraiser for Huguenot's Mission ministries, this event gives teens a chance to show off their musical talents while raising money for a good cause.
